The curious case of Ilya Bryzgalov

Pic unrelated

Earlier today Flyers GM Paul Holmgren traded the teams 3rd round draft choice in 2012, left winger Matt Clackson and another conditional draft pick to the Phoenix Coyotes for the rights to their goalie, Ilya Bryzgalov. Now as awesome as this may sound, the Russian might not come cheap. Word out of the desert is Brizzy is asking for at least 4 years and about $5 million per, which means one or more important players may not return. If Philly gives Ilya the big bucks, the roster could go as such.

BUMP IT!

... SOOOOO if the netminder signs for $5 a year, Scott Hartnell might end up being a salary dump and Ville Leino, Sean O'Donnell and Carcillo will all be lost to free agency. Obviously, S.O.D. and Carcillo won't be a big deal. And hell, I wouldn't care much about Bird-Dogg leaving, either. But Leino... Well at age 27 he's another story. A talent like his would be pretty crappy to lose, but them's the breaks in an NHL salary cap age.

The two sides have until July 1st to come to an agreement. If not he becomes another Dan Hamhuis and goes into free agency. Should be an interesting next few weeks.
