Bryz gets paid (WAY too much)

Well we all kinda saw this coming, but definitely not at the expense of the teams high-profile players.

Thanks to Richards & Carter leaving, a shit-ton of cap was opened up and free agent goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov was able to sign an enormous nine-year, $51 million dollar contract. The cap hit ($5,666,667 per) is somewhat reasonable, but once the russian's deal is done, he'll be 40, making him a dinosaur in hockey years. Plus if that weren't enough, what happens to their promising young netminder, Sergei Bobrovsky now? In his rookie season, he was a fantastic surprise to the formerly goalie-lacking team, winning 28 of his 54 starts and posting a 2.59 goals allowed average. With this huge deal, Bob's story in Philadelphia might be over before it starts.

I hope you're happy, Ed Snider. Despite the tumultuous day, you have your goalie. You just better hope this team can still win games.
